"Koniec samotności" is the first novel by a thirty-year-old German writer, Benedict Welles, who has gained enormous popularity in his country, and his books are constantly on the bestseller list. I took her with me on holiday, but unfortunately my choice on this matter was quite wrong. Not because the book is bad, boring, or somehow I read it badly. Simply "Koniec samotności"is unbelievably sad It is a book of passing, death, reconciliation, and rebellion against one and not another. This is a story of a kind that I personally miss by a wide arc. I just try to avoid books about such a serious subject, because it is a very difficult subject for me. I also have situations that I have to deal with every day, in real life, so I do not have to worry anymore with reading.
Deciding to read "The End of Solitude" I was not fully aware that the story is so serious. I read the cover on the cover, so I knew it was not a light story, but I did not anticipate it to be so dramatic and the whole heart would break.
The plot of the book takes place in the 80 - of the twentieth century, and oscillates between history three children: Jules, Marty and Liz, who unexpectedly lost both parents in a car accident and need to cope with the loss. The kids at the time of their parents' death are at their teenage age and are very burdened by the new reality. Initially auntie care, later placed in a child's home, the Internet, which was involved in their education and upbringing.
And although everyone is placed in the same center, their paths almost immediately go away. Each of the three siblings adopt a safe attitude to him, which is to protect him from sadness, pain and scraping off fresh wounds. The eldest sibling, Marty, a typical nerd, immediately closes in her own world, finding herself in the work of developing emerging computer technology and fledgling programming. Eternally sitting in his room, he does not pay attention to younger siblings, who very need him at this time.Liz, in front of a friendly, honest and kind girl, takes a vulgar and obscene attitude. He quickly gains a bad reputation in the boarding house, and all the gossip about him melt with laughter, so that even the friars are beginning to doubt her sincerity.
NThe smallest of the siblings, Jules, who was an open and self-confident child, still ready for new challenges, becomes a loner, timid and withdrawn, everlastingly exposed to mockery and aggression from the drones of fellow students. That's why lonely Jules has to deal with his problems as he knows how. His only comfort in life at the resort is Alvie, a girl who, like him, has a difficult childhood and is a little weirdo. The kids are friends, but their paths have to rot and meet again after a dozen years, so that there may be a deeper feeling between them. Jules and Alvie will try to create a deeper relationship and a cool family, but life has other plans for them, and another tragedy is hiding on the horizon.
The "Koniec samotności" is primarily based on describing relationships between siblings. First, what happened before the accident, later, what kind of kids lived during the stay at the resort, eventually, as their fates in adulthood happened. But the whole thing is so overwhelming and sad that it's hard for me to write about it. Heroes left in their youth themselves can not cope, and their "adult" psyche is severely suffering from it. Unfortunately, even after years, around them are already close to, help and support, they still feel lonely even when surrounded by people.
For this, the book carries another, overwhelming tone: every moment of happiness and peace can be disturbed by tragedy, and the help of loved ones will not change our inner sadness, which in this situation is in us.
Do you see how difficult this book is? My mistake was to choose her for the holidays, but well I followed her, somewhere near the end of the holiday, otherwise my humor would get worse. In general it is a very specific book, so I will not recommend it to you. If someone feels that such a story may be of interest to him and may be important to him at this stage of life, I encourage him as much as possible. Benedict Wells writes very well, though in a characteristic, rather crude style. The events in the book are interspersed with Jules's thoughts (because he is the narrator of this story), and the whole story is sure to get stuck in your memory. He stabs a splinter reminding himself of the fact that life is fragile and fleeting, and at every moment he loses what is good for us."Koniec samotności" , you already know what to expect.
